After a totally massive lie in on Good Friday and our virtuous bowl of buckwheat porridge (in the next post), we decided to go for a walk up Gloucester road in the efforts to find something nice to nibble on and to do a little light shopping. And we found that we could actually get a table at Bakers and Co, a rare occurrence, so we stopped in for a little nibble.
I aimed for something healthy and originally chose a smashed avocado with lime, chilli and coriander on sourdough but they’d run out of avocado and so I opted for a delicious salad with roasted plums and goats cheese, with pine nuts and rocket and raddiccio. It was delicious. I also had a slice of sourdough – just to see how it compared to mine (much better is the answer, and now that I’ve killed the sourdough starter, I’m going to have to wait for a few weeks before I can next try a new loaf).
Poor sickly husband (man flu apparently) had one of the best looking steak sandwiches I’ve ever seen, thinly sliced steak, still pink in the middle, on some lovely sour dough with some peppery dressed watercress. Lush.
Our waitress was just lovely and welcoming and helpful, brought us a little glass of beetroot juice while they made us a full glass and said it was on the house. I’d recommend it for sure, if you can ever get a table.
