The Botanist – a new pub / restaurant in Bristol – a review

I am growing fonder and fonder of the Botanist as time goes on. This may be because of the friendly and efficient service, or the location (approx 50 metres from my flat) or even the comfy seats but having eaten there again this weekend, it might be because of the food.

This may be the worlds most unhealthy salad. It was however the best salad I have had in 2011.

Yes, it was a huge ball of mozzarella dipped in breadcrumbs and deepfried!  On top of some beautifully fresh avocado and beefsteak tomatoes. How can this be better?

Accompanied by a delicious bowl of home made fries (yes! they taste like real potatoes, have skin on them and are soft inside and deliciously crispy on the outside). They are billed as rosemary fires but really there is just some rosemary chopped into the mayo and the fries themselves don’t taste of rosemary.

Their pastas are tasty but really could have done with a little parmigiana shavings on top.

The service was great, our waitress was friendly and charming without being overly familiar and was helpful. The outside courtyard – where we ate – was a lovely sheltered sunny spot.
